The chapter is from the book “The First World War and its Aftermath The Making of the Modern Middle East,” which was published in September 2015 and you can buy it in full here. This edited volume is the culmination of an academic conference that was held in September 2014, meaning my chapter was completed around that time, so caveats in terms of how up to date it is. It is still a worthwhile intellectual history for those interested in background.
